Giving a Voice to the Silent Majority

Lets be honest, we all love living here because there is so much to do, see and experience. The last thing most of us get excited about is engaging in local policy discussions. Unfortunately, those in the community that do have the time or passion, don’t want to see change, or plan for the inevitable growth that we will see over the years to come. Those that stand to gain the most from smart density planning, and housing diversity are the least likely to have time to get involved or speak up. Our mission is to break up community involvement and advocacy into small bites that make it easy for everyone to get involved. Our Planning Commission, and City Council need to hear all of the voices in our community, especially that of the Silent Majority.

Why Should I get involved?

The secret is out. People have quickly learned that Leavenworth is one of the most desirable places to live. Growth is inevitable, and if we don’t make changes to the code and policy NOW we’re going to continue on a path of losing our community. The idea of “affordable” housing is sadly becoming a thing of the past, so now we have to fight to sustain at least a modicum of housing diversity. If our restaurants, stores, schools and hospitals cant find employees due to a lack of housing options, then we stand to lose these services all together.

How Can I get involved?

Getting involved is as simple as sharing your story. All we aim to do is provide a counter balance to the vocal minority that have overwhelming been the ones to speak up. We simply need 5-6 people a month to share their thoughts on the type of community they’d like to see moving forward. Have you had a hard time finding a place to live? Speak up! Are you struggling to find employees because of a lack of housing? Speak up! Would you rather see more diverse housing not just new vacation homes? Speak Up!
